EVALUATION 4 - AUDIENCE FEEDBACK
POSITIVE COMMENTS
- GREAT USE OF TRANSITIONS WHICH WAS THE FADES
- GOOD USE OF SPACE WHEN FILMING
- THE CLOTHING MATCHED WITH THE URBAN GENRE CORRECTLY
- RANGE OF LOCATIONS SHOTS
- LOOKED PROFESSIONAL
- CAMERA SHAKEN AT TIMES
- LIP SYNC WASN'T QUITE SPOT ON
- SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED A GIRL AS IT WOULD HAVE MADE THE VIDEO SEEM MORE INTERESTING
- RANGE WAS NOT IN FOCUS AT TIMES AND THE CAMERA SHOULD HAVE GAVE HIM A LITTLE MORE RECOGNITION.
I HAVE LEARNT QUITE A LOT FROM THE FEEDBACK GIVEN AND PLEASED WITH IT, HOWEVER NOT BEING THE BEST AT TECHNOLOGY BEFORE INCLUDING SOME USAGE OF THE EQUIPMENT FOR EXAMPLE THE CAMERA HAS HELPED ME IMPROVE A LOT. WHEN FILMING FOR THE MUSIC VIDEO AT FIRST MY TECHNIQUES WERE VERY POOR TRYING TO ANGLE THE CAMERA SO THE POSITION OF THE SHOT WOULD BE PERFECT.NOT HAVING A STEADY HAND WHILST CAMERA WAS HANDHELD ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO THE CAMERA BEING SHAKEN AS THIS WAS MENTIONED WHILST I WAS PANNING AROUND THE ARTISTS. SO FROM THIS PARTICULAR FEEDBACK I HAVE LEARNT TO ALWAYS PRACTISE BEFORE DOING THE MAIN THING BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT GET THE BEST RESULTS AT THE END.
I BELIEVE ALSO THAT I SHOULD HAVE WORKED HARDER ON MY EDITING SKILLS AS THIS IS MY WORST POINT THE "LIP SYNC" WAS MENTIONED WHICH IS KEY PART OF ANY MUSIC VIDEOS AND CLEARLY ACCORDING TO THE AUDIENCE IT WASN'T THE BEST, AGAIN THIS ALSO LINKS WITH PRACTISING BUT ON "FINAL CUT PRO" BECAUSE I FOUND THIS VERY COMPLEX BUT I MUST ALWAYS LEARN NOT TO GIVE UP IF I FIND THINGS DIFFICULT, THIS IS WHAT THESE NEGATIVE COMMENTS HAVE THOUGHT ME AS THERE COULD OBVIOUSLY BE MORE ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT AND IF I COULD GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN THERE WILL BE A MAJOR CHANGE IN EDITING AND CAMERA WORK. I REMEMBER IN THE COLLEGE STUDIO I HAD TO FILM IN FRONT OF A BLACK CURTAIN WHICH HAD LINES ON THEM SO I HAD TO MAKE SURE THE CAMERA WAS IN FOCUS IN A TIGHT SPACE SO THE ARTIST WILL NOT GO BEYOND THE LINES AS IT WOULD HAVE EFFECTED OUR VIDEO, I DIDN'T QUITE MANAGE TO PULL IT OFF AS WE VIEWED IT ON THE SCREEN IT WAS OUT OF FOCUS UNFORTUNATELY. SURPRISINGLY MOST PEOPLE PREFERRED THE STUDIO SHOTS.
PERSONALLY I WOULD HAVE WANTED A MORE GLAMOURS VIDEO WITH FLASHY CARS AND A PENTHOUSE BUT BEING ON A BUDGET AS A STUDENT IS QUITE TOUGH .
IN THE LAST VIDEO ETHEL ALSO TALKED ABOUT MY ANCILLARY PRODUCTS. SHE REALLY LIKED THE POSE "JUST A LITTLE "AS IT SHOWED A CLEAR VISUAL LINK TO MY MUSIC VIDEOS WHICH WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF IT .
ON THE OTHER HAND THE POSITIVE COMMENTS MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED SOMETHING WHICH IS ACTUALLY MAKING "MY OWN" MUSIC VIDEO EVEN THROUGH THE STRESSFUL HARD TIMES SO OVERALL AGAIN I AM HAPPY ESPECIALLY WITH MY GROUP AS EVERYONE PLAYED THERE PART WELL !

Evaluation 3
I USED I SHOW U ON FINAL CUT PRO TO SHOW THE EARTH QUAKE EFFECT TO MAKE IT MORE EXCITING FOR THE AUDIENCE.
EVALUATION: QUESTION 4.
AFTER CREATING A MUSIC VIDEO FOR 'JUST A LITTLE'. OUR GROUP VIDEOED A FEW RESPONSES FROM FELLOW MEDIA STUDENTS WHO HAD CREATED THEIR OWN. AFTER THE SHOWING OF THE CINEMA.
Audience Feedback
Audience Feedback
MAIN COMMENTS OF IMPROVEMENTS:
- Studio shots
- Adding a variety of editing: edits were simple
- More/Different locations
Overall comments were positive however we did have a comment about one of the outfits not being attractive. this was important feedback because the artist was a female which we feel that is our main target audience. Therefore I would change the outfit so it is more attractive if we had more comments on that. Also in the studio some shots didn't have a good focus and the black curtains allowed some light to come in luckily our audience didn't seem to notice it or if they did they didn't pay much attention to it. However if I had a chance to re-do the video. I would re-shoot more of the studio shots as a lot of people favoured this location and wanted more. For the comment of improvement concerning the locations of adding or changing locations to fit the conventions of our genre. If I had a higher budget I would have chose a location in a night club where there would be a a lot of lights etc. and much more materialistic things. You have to give what the audience wants!
ANCILLARY PRODUCTS!

front panel |
MAIN FEEDBACK: ANCILLARY PRODUCTS LOOKED LIKE REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS BUT THE FRONT PANEL (GOOD COLOUR SCHEME) AND ADVERTISEMENT ARE TOO SIMPLE. WHAT I COULD DO WITH FEEDBACK?: IF I WAS TO CREATE THEM AGAIN I WOULD EITHER TAKE A PHOTOSHOP CLASS SO I CAN USE IT TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL. FOR EXAMPLE INSTEAD OF HAVING A PLAIN BACKGROUND HAVE IMAGES FROM THE LOCATION, LEICESTER SQUARE WHICH WOULD FIT THE GENRE.
4) What have you learned from your audience feedback.
During and after the viewing of our student music video 'Just a little' I thought It was essential to record get the audiences feedback on how they thought our music video went; In this evaluation I will be talking about the pro's and cons and what I have learned.
Audience reaction: In this reaction Eleni states that she enjoys our genre of song and how it creates ‘soft R&B, Hip Hop’ feel, she talks about the use of camera work and our use’s of editing as we showed some fast shots and slow shots showing a variety of everything that worked well together. Overall most were positive comments however one improvement she suggested was to add more movement such as dance.
Our music video showing in cinema
Audience Feedback
We can also improve on our locations as adam mentioned to have more different locations more conventional to the genre.
Another improvement suggested by our audience, was to add more effects and to use more shots from the studio as Jerome stated the studio shots were the strongest shots throughout the music video.
During the showing of our music video I could see that everyone was enjoying it, also as we choose a song from Tinie Tempah's album not much people had heard our chosen song before which made it more fresh and unique to listen too.
When Our music video had finished there was applause from the audience which hopefully showed our music video was a success. After the screening of all student music videos I interviewed my friends, who had been watching our music video, Most things they said were positive and there weren't much negatives however I thought if I had a chance to change certain aspects of our music video it would be one to change one of our locations for example; In the studio as the black curtains didn't cover all areas of the window light from outside was coming out of corners, resulting in our music video not looking as professional on camera. Luckily our audience didn't seem to notice it or if they did they didn't pay much attention to it.
Overall from creating my music video I have learned more about how to use different technical software’s such as; Final cut pro, live type ect. Also using the advanced cameras in creating certain shots and angels we wanted and advancing on our planning and organisation skills so we were able to meet deadlines. However from all the audiences’ feedback I have also learned about the stuff I could improve on to make my music video look the best it can. As one of my audiences feedback suggested to add a female, to some of the shots in the music video as this would be a useful convention in linking the lyrics with the video as the lyrics was mostly about a girl nevertheless our main plan from the start was to use a female In some of the shots however we did not have enough time to find and choose a girl to be in it, If I had a chance to change this I would think more about improving our organisation and planning skills so we had enough time to achieve what we wanted from the beginning although as we was working on a low student budget some aspects we wanted to use such as; a fancy car or having one of our locations in a penthouse, was not possible to use as we couldn’t afford this with the budget we had.

Another one of our audience feedback commented on how she especially liked our studio shots as she thought it was the most effective out of the other locations. However she thought that some shots were quite dark therefore you wasn’t able to see the artists as clearly as we wanted, to overcome this it would be appropriate to either change the studio to a more brighter location or to use a head top light to see the artists more clearly. What I’ve learned from this is what audiences find important from music videos and how to use the camera more effectively as she also suggested that some shots were quite shaky resulting in shots looking less professional, if we had a chance to improve we could maybe hold the camera more steady.
Audience feedback on my ancillary products
Pros
- The Inside panel of Digipak- Effective use of colours as my chosen CD panel colour is a muted purple to the background, which works well together.
- Use of image- Establishing our main artist and promoting his image to the audience.
- Chosen Shapes and fonts make It look up to date with other urban/Rap covers
- Grafti writing used for main artists name 'M.K' is effective as it gives a sense of the genre and his image.
Cons
- To crop image more exact on Photoshop and to get out the rough edges around the image so that it looked more professionally done on my ancillary products.
- However As I am not used to using Photoshop I mainly only knew the basics so It was difficult to create certain aspects I wanted on my Digipak such as creating an airbrush effect.
Pros
- Interior of CD fits together really nicely
- Good sense of energy from our performer on the advertisement.
- Effective choice of images as there are two different postures from one artist.
- Uses of font (graffiti) create visual links between the genre and artist.
-There wasn't much cons in this feedback however she did point out that the font used on the title of our artist 'M.K' for the advertisement was different to the font used on my front CD panel for 'M.K's name.
Throughout the progression of creating my Digipak and advertisement I learned more how to use the technical design software’s such as; Photoshop or Quark express and the benefits of ancillary products to my audience, as some of the feedback suggested what aspects best appealed to them when looking at my Digipak and advertisements and what they liked the most of them. For example; both feedback’s stated that they thought the use of font (Graffiti writing) was most effective as it gave a sense of the artist and the genre he was promoting which also creating visual links between all of my products.

2) How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)
Here are my ancillary products:
These are the studio shots from my music video - I used the same outfit as these on all my ancillary products.
Our main brand identity was the 'Ray Ban' glasses which you can see in most of the music video as we thought this was the most significant item that represented his image as an artist, There was also other references such as the hand gesture that suggests the name of the song 'Just A Little', this is shown throughout the music video as well. However when we created our ancillary products the images we choose did not show our brand identity as we thought it would be good to challenge some of the conventions from the music video to the ancillary products, nevertheless our audiences subconsciously will still be able to gather clear visual links between our student music video and my ancillary products as I have used the same outfit from the studio (in the music video) to all my ancillary products.
Evaluation 2. How effective is the video and ancillary products.
ALSO ANOTHER LINK BETWEEN THE VIDEO AND MY ANCILLARY PRODUCT WAS THAT MK WORE A POLO IN BOTH PRODUCTS AND MUSIC VIDEO AS THIS HELP TO BUILD A SENSE OF RECOGNITION.
THE BRAND IDENTITY IS RAY BANDS"WORN ON BOTH THE ARTIST " AND THE BEATS HEAD PHONES WHICH WAS WORN BY THE MAIN ARTIST MK THROUGHOUT THE VIDEO AS IT REPRESENTED THE IMAGE OF ARTISTS IN THE VIDEO HOWEVER WE DID NOT USE THESE ITEM IN THE ANCILLARY PRODUCTS AS WE CHALLENGE SOME CONVENTIONS. BUT WE KNOW THAT OUR AUDIENCE WILL STILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE CLEAR VISUAL LINKS BETWEEN THE MUSIC VIDEOS AND PRODUCTS AS IT RELATES TO THE THE URBAN GENRE.
EVALUATION: QUESTION 1.
OUR VIDEO IS A DISJUNCTURE AS IT IS MOSTLY PERFORMANCE ( ANDRE GOODWIN'S THEORY). IT FOLLOWS THE CHORUS - VERSE -CHORUS STRUCTURE. THE CHORUS ARE SHOT IN THE STUDIO MAKING IT THE MASTER TRACK. THE RETURN OF LOCATIONS HELPS THE AUDIENCE TO KNOW THE ARTIST AND HIS BRAND ,WHICH ARE THE GLASSES.
THERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT LOCATIONS: ALEXANDRE PALACE AND LECIESTOR SQUARE. THERES A CLEAR VISUAL DIFFERENCE DURING THE BRIDGE AS IT SWITCHES BETWEEN THE LOCATIONS.
Evaluation 4. What have I learned from my audience feedback.
Adam pointed of the 'Dre Beats' headphones which is part of the grime culture that is why the artist is wearing them. However there also part of the hip hop culture and the interviewee has got the genre of the song wrong. This is something we could of been more clearer about. MK is not just grime but he is english hip hop. That is why he is not in an 'estate' but is in an open area like a Alexander palace. This location was used for its colour, view and link to London.
Jason pointed out that he liked the artist performance skills and it made the video look professional. He also liked the transitions and found it hard to find negatives about the video, however he did say that if we could we should of added a car, something that is seen in many hip hop videos. When we first planned the video we did want this however there was no car avalible. And finally he thought there should of been a female in the video as the song is about a female but i think the video still works well without one because the song is about the artist not being with the female and denying his over for her but missing her 'Just a little'. So having no female emphasises this.
Jason thought that the album cover should not of had lines because there "chunky" and draws attention from the rest of the cover. I think they could of been much smaller also. Furthermore he said he didn't like the black background however i like the simplicity. He said the cover fits the genre and has typical conventions which he said was a good and bad thing. I didn't want to challenge the conventions in my album cover however challenging the conventions could be something I'd try next time it seems like a fun task.
The advert he though contained to much things and there wasn't enough space. I imagine the poster on a billboard and I think it would look better on there and not so compact. He did however like the image of MK pointing to his album.
His favourite was the inside of the digipak. Because he liked the image, triangle on the CD and the little shout out. He likes the black and white contrast on this part but not onn the front. He thinks the front should be more creative because that would sell he product. I do agree and think next time I will make it more colourful.
Kayla liked the camera movements and camera angles, many close ups which is one of the main conventions of a music video. She other than Adam liked the black background because the clothes stand out. And also unlike Adam she likes all the different locations. She thought the steadiness of the camera could of been better, maybe we should of used the tripod more. Also there was some dark shots which I do agree and wish we used the spotlight more. She thinks that MK shouldn't of been in front of Range as much as he was but we did this to emphasise MK is the main actor.
Unlike Jason Kayla liked the use of the black and white colours. She also liked the effects of MK in different colours because it makes the audience focus on the main artist. However she thinks I should of used an image with my mouth closed. I didn't think about this but I tried to make the over like Tinie Tempah Pass Out cover. She thinks The album cover on the advert should of been bigger and the logos not stretched as much, I have too agree.
From all the audience feedback I've realised things I could of improved on. I now know what I will do better next time.
Evaluation. In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms & conventions of real media products.

the spot brush
AS YOU CAN SEE MICHEAL FACE BEFORE AND AFTER WHICH I HAVE TRIED TO CLEAR HIS SPOTS AND BLEND IT WITH HIS SKIN TO MAKE HIS FACE CLEARER WITH THE DISTORT EFFECT
BACKGROUND !
I WAS TRYING TO EXPERIMENT WITH THE TEXTURE OF THE DIGIPACKS BACKGROUND TO GIVE IT A DIFFERENT EFFECT
Last minute changes to Digipak and Poster
I added more logos and made them look slicker
I added a design into the inside CD cover
I added shadows under the artist arm to hide jagged cropping and moved the album to not cover my finger

Added an artist website and the record company i forgot! (SBTV)
Kept the same.
