Skills development on our chosen song Tinie Tempah-Just a little

Before we could begin to make our music video we first had to plan our production method.

We first printed out our song lyrics of the internet from that we could then create a shot list of what camera angles we wanted for each line in the song and the location we wanted for the chorus and verse. In my AS year as I was creating a film, me and my AS group thought it would be more easier to map out our plan of locations and camera shots on a storyboard. However as we our creating a music video a shot list seemed quicker to do and more clearer to read through when continuing on to the production stage.

After creating our shot-list we looked at a range of different videos that would give us some inspiration of how we wanted our music video to look, as there are four of us in the group we all have different ideas of how we wanted the music video to be. Therefore we picked a few Music vids that had different aspects we all wanted our music video to show. for example; Chipmunk ft Trey Songz- Take off - we took inspiration from the city location and the park.
Now we had an idea of what we wanted our music video to look like we could then move onto our pitch that we had to show in-front of the class. In the Pitch we had to discuss:

  • Costumes our artists will be wearing - We took our inspiration of clothing from Tinie Tempah
  • The locations in which we will be recording- Alexandra Palace and Lecster Square
  • Brand image- all the brands we will be using.
  • Were we got our ideas from- Chipmunk ft Trey Songz (Take Off) & Tinie Tempah (Pass Out)
  • Our Audience target audience overall - Mainly girls, Younger Audiences (16-24) year old's and for audiences who our interested in our choice of genre (hip-hop)
  • A Specific target audience - We created our ideal person who we thought would most suit our choice of song and is most likely to listen to it.
  • Goodwins Theory
  • Our artists signing
  • Risk assessment

Once we presented our pitch we got consignment from our teacher that we were allowed to film however before we could start to record we first had to plan out our production schedule- this enables the teacher to know were we will be taking the equipment, how long for we will be using it and times of pick up and drop off. We also had to fill out a red slip giving down our name and group number which enables our group full responsibilities for use of the equipment. We then could start to record our music video, although as a group we thought it was best that we first took some practice shots and planned out were we wanted out artists to stand in-front of the camera and how we wanted the lighting however we only managed to plan out this part in the studio in college. In the other locations, out of college we began immediately.

Although there was a lot of similarities to the planning I did in AS, this year we our creating a music video rather than a horror film which meant some of the planning methods was different, for example:
  • The pitch in AS had different slides to do with the film industry rather than the music industry.
  • I found that the presentation of our pitch in AS wasn't as good as the one we did this year for our music video (we took more consideration in planning and presenting skills.)
  • using a storyboard rather than a shot-list
  • before we choose one location in creating our film rather then three with our music video
  • Costumes and brand labels were less important as we were creating a horror sequence, so a lot of it was done in the dark.
  • Making the film we used one actor, in the making of our music video we have too artists
  • The roles in our group are different to the roles we had making the horror film in AS
